Why do I want to run?
I feel compelled to give back to the system that gave me so much.
When I look back at what I have accomplished in my life and professional career, I can say without a doubt that I could not have done it without my community college experience.
Born in Ecuador to a single mother raising four boys, I had the desire to go to college, not the means of a traditional four-year university.
Community college opened the door of my future when I was awarded a student government $100 grant. This simple scholarship transformed my life.
As a student leader, the Dean of Students mentored me and urged me to consider a public affairs career. Inspired, I eventually earned a master’s degree from APU and become a public affairs executive in the telecommunications industry.
I am blessed to have a wonderful wife and four children. I also serve as a mentor to fatherless, at-risk student youth.
As Chairman of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership, I am skilled at coalition building and have a reputation as an honest leader.
I sit as a Board member for a number of educational enrichment organizations in the district, such as The Learning Centers at Fairplex and Just Us 4 Youth. I also sit on LA's BEST Board that serves 25,000 LAUSD students with vital after-school programs.
Once elected, I will ensure district dollars directly support student success, access, apprenticeships, training for adults who lost jobs and I will promote fiscal responsibility and accountability especially during these difficult times.
